Shanaz butt, Phd

Dr. Shanaz Butt is a tenured professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.  Her research is directed towards understanding the effects of stress on mental disorders.  She has published over 65 papers and made more than 175 presentations at local, national and international conferences. 

As research advisor, Shanaz has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students, and trained several post-doctoral fellows.  She lectures to undergraduate, graduate and professional level students on subjects related to the physiology, pharmacology and toxicology of the brain and related behaviors.

Shanaz received her BS and MS degrees from the University of Mumbai, her Ph.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia, and completed her post-doctoral training from the University of Pennsylvania.  She received her MBA degree from the University of the Sciences.   

Dr. Shanaz embraced Ahmadiyyat and by the Grace of Allah, had the opportunity to serve as National President, Lajna Imaillah-USA from 2000-2010 and then served as the inaugural AWSA President from 2011-2014. She also served as Director of Feed the Hungry Program and Our Kids Our Future Program under Humanity First USA from 2011-16, and served as Global Strategic Lead for Knowledge for Life, Humanity First International from 2019-2020.
